On average? I'd say anywhere from ages, to the rest of their life. this is of course, based on my impression that rehab almost never works the first time, and even then, rarely works at all.

It depends with the each individual's coping mechanism. Some takes longer (6-1 yr) or shorter (1-3 months). If a person is very motivated to break his/ her addiction, it's usually faster, it just depends on a person's discipline & cooperation for treatment.

Depends on how long and how much one has used. Detox can take maybe 3-7 days inpatient plus a lenghthy rehab stay if they have insurance (30 days) but there is also the emotional addiction which can take much longer. I don't think an addiction is ever truly broken. They say once an addict always an addict, although the addict may be clean, they have to be very careful. It depends on how addicted they were to the stuff, how often they did it, and how long they have been doing it. I guess eveyone is diffrent to, if you have the will power to do it then you will succeed, but unfortunetly those drugs are pretty strong and is a hard habit to break. so dont get started in the first place!

I agree with those who said that it depends on the person. It also depends on your own definition of "addiction " and your definition of "breaking an addiction ". It's not so simple and obvious as it seems. If you believe like common and popular perception that addiction is some kind of disease (a notion influenced by the AA industry which is a religion in disguise) then addictions cannot really be 'broken' only 'controlled'. Any occasional use is considered as 'relapse' and the only solution is complete abstention. That's a lie. In fact addiction is not a disease, it is a strong habit. Note that I'm not saying that it's 'merely' a habit, it is not a demotion - it is simply a different thing. The simple fact is that is no proof that any single 'treatment' method is substantially better than any other method. The 12-step, support group, medications, and even self rehab, produce more or less the same result. I'm not saying that they are not working just that they are not better or worse than any other method. That means that the WILL is the most important factor in breaking a cocaine habit BUT will is not something you either have or you don't. Will is something one can build wither by himself or with professional assistance. With the assistance of will addicts are able to reduce and moderate their consumption of drugs to a reasonable level.
