Question: Can you die from heroin addiction withdrawl?

Not for me. But someone I know who recently went to jail. So kinda just wondering.

Any opiate or opioid withdrawal such as heroin, is extremely taxing on the body. The sheer exhaustion of withdrawals can bring on complications such as a weak heart. This can lead to ill health or death at times. The most dangerous drugs to ever withdrawal from are Benzo's such as valium or Xanax. And alcohol. In fact the death rate from alcohol detox is the highest of any drug. In jail they will be aware of the drug addiction and they will be treated and monitored by medical staff in the institution.

If your body is very weak, then yes. Heroin withdrawl is VERY tough on the body.

Yes, that's why most people who are coming off heroin end up being put on methadone and slowly taken off (even though it usually just leads to an addiction to methadone).

Heroin is a strong drug and heroin withdrawal can be taxing on the body. There are instances where people have died due to withdrawal. But there is hope with treatment. Of late, the treatments are not just restricted to medication. A lot of importance is given to the wellness aspect in the treatment program. Instead out living with the fear. Intervene and who so ever the person is, get professional help.
